Cotswold Spring Lamb is part of Marks & Spencer's speciality range

The Cotswold Sheep Group have been working with Marks and Spencer who have now added a new Speciality Range called Cotswold Spring Lamb which will be available in stores from 2nd May 2012. For more information visit the M&S website.


New chairman and committee announced
AGM, 26/11/2012

Peter Richards, from M A Richards (Hawling) Ltd, New House Farm, Hawling has been appointed new chairman of the Cotswold Sheep Group. He succeeds Nick Bumford who was chairman for 2 years.

ABP Food Group acquisition of RWM Food Group
Press Release 7th October 2011

ABP Food Group, the parent company for ABP UK, is pleased to announce the agreed acquisition of the RWM Food Group Holdings Limited, effective from 9 October 2011. The RWM business processes beef and lamb at facilities in Langport, Somerset and Yetminster, Dorset respectively. The Dorset plant also includes a retail packing operation.

ABP UK looks forward to continued good relations with the farmers supplying, and the customers of, the RWM Food Group.

Tom Kirwan, Managing Director of ABP UK, stated that:

“This is an important milestone in the development of ABP UK, augmenting its beef supply in the cattle rich South West region of England and giving the business a platform in lamb to further develop its existing lamb processing activity in Northern Ireland.”

Graham Heffer stated that:

“The sale of RWM was taken after much consideration by the family who had invested 40 years into growing and developing the business that prides itself on quality and customer service.  I am sure ABP UK will embrace the RWM ethos and help the business develop even further.  I would like to thank our staff, customers, suppliers and farmers for their dedication and loyalty on behalf of the entire family.”


Cull ewe trade remains strong

At a recent meeting of the Sheep Group, Alan Jones announced that the cull ewe trade remains very firm and ewes between 20kg – 30kg deadweight - 55kg – 70kg live weight - Good meat ewes R2 or better, not fat or plain.

Price: £3.50/kg.

Other ewes which are not in this category can also be dealt.

Cotswold Lamb "nothing short of perfect" at royal wedding dinner
Mandarin Oriental Hotel, London, 28/04/2011

LAMB from the Cotswolds served at a Royal event hosted by the Queen was described as ‘nothing short of perfect.’ Anne Harrison, of Broad Campden, secretary of the Cotswold Sheep Group, said Casterbridge Cotswold Lamb was served for the pre-Royal wedding celebrations at The Mandarin Oriental Hotel, hosted by the Queen and attended by royal figures such as the royal families of Spain, Greece, Siberia, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark, Luxembourg along with the Sultan of Brunei and Sheikh Ahmad Hamoud Al-Sabah of Kuwait.

Mrs Harrison said: “The hotel sent a note to the suppliers Fairfax Meadow stating ‘the lamb quality for our royal event was nothing short of perfect.”


CASTERBRIDGE COTSWOLD LAMB DAY
Binley Farm, Kingscote, Tetbury, 10/05/2011

The "Casterbridge Cotswold Lamb Day" took place on Tuesday 10th May.  Group member Richard Gale hosted the event at Binley Farm, Kingscote.  The weather and setting could not have been more perfect; a number of group members attended to promote the group’s Cotswold Lamb to about 40 companies represented by chefs and buyers.  This successful day was organised by Fairfax Meadow and Eblex.
